The Election Commission of India (ECI) is currently reviewing a complaint lodged against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his controversial ‘infiltrators’ remark made during a rally in Rajasthan’s Banswara on April 21, according to sources within the poll body.

PM Modi’s statement, targeting the Congress, sparked controversy as he accused the party of intending to distribute the country’s assets based on religion. He stated, “The Congress manifesto says they will calculate the gold with mothers and sisters, get information about it and then distribute that property. They will distribute it to whom – Manmohan Singh’s government had said that Muslims have the first right on the country’s assets.”

He continued, alleging, “Earlier, when their (Congress) government was in power, they had said that Muslims have the first right on the country’s assets. This means to whom will this property be distributed? It will be distributed among those who have more children… It will be distributed to the infiltrators. Should your hard-earned money go to the infiltrators? Do you approve of this?”

Following PM Modi’s remarks, a delegation of Congress leaders approached the Election Commission on Monday, lodging complaints against the Prime Minister. The Congress delegation asserted that PM Modi’s statements were false and aimed at creating divisions between Hindus and Muslims.

The Election Commission has confirmed the receipt of the complaint and stated that it is currently under consideration.
