Indian Gaur found dead

The carcass of an Indian Gaur found in Varusanadu on Wednesday.

A female Indian Gaur, aged around four years, was found dead in Arasaradi Manjanoothu forest area under Varusandu forest range in Theni district on Wednesday.

The forest officials were engaged in a patrol when they found the carcass.

Veterinarian Veyilan conducted post mortem which revealed that the animal died due to breathing problem. The carcass was buried inside the forest.

Environmentalists have raised concern about Gaur deaths in the Kadamalaikundu and Mayiladumparai areas of Varusanadu in recent times. They demanded that a study should be conducted to check for any disease that is spreading among the Gaur population in the area.

Varusanadu Ranger (in-charge) Arumugam, foresters Pradeep and Poovendran, forest guard Ramar and anti-poaching watchers were present during the post mortem.
