On an outlay of ₹10 crore under Smart Cities Mission

A STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) park is to be set up by the Corporation under the Smart Cities Mission.

The park, which would be set up in Ambedkar Nagar on an area of 12 acres, is to be set up on an outlay of ₹10 crore.

Corporation Commissioner V.P. Jeyaseelan and other officials inspected the area where the park is to be set up on Wednesday. Officials said that the park would be the first-of-its-kind in the southern districts.

The park would have a number of facilities, including an oceanic park, outdoor science park, evolution park, space corner, math park, indoor science pavilion and an herbal garden. An amphitheatre for lectures and science demonstrations would also be set up.

Models of marine species such as octopus, grey seal, dolphin, turtle, whale and others would be on display at the oceanic park. The outdoor science park would exhibits explaining various areas of science, including mechanics, sound, light, simple harmonic motion, physiology, applied science, meteorology, heat, geography, biology, chemistry, mathematics and fluid mechanics. The maths park would be on similar lines with play equipment in various geometric shapes and designed in a way to explain mathematical concepts.

It would also have a ‘space corner’ with models of rockets and spacecraft to create awareness about the country’s achievements in space technology.

The evolution park, according to the detailed project report of the park, would exhibit models installed in a chronological sequence to show the evolution of living beings from amoeba to humans. Dinosaur models would also be part of the park. An herbal garden with various medicinal plants would also be on display.
