The Principal Special Court for Essential Commodities (EC) and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act Cases in Madurai made a significant ruling on Wednesday, extending the judicial custody of YouTuber ‘Savukku’ Shankar until May 22. This decision comes in light of his involvement in a ganja case registered by the Theni police.

The investigation unfolded on May 6 when the Theni district police arrested Mahendran from Kamudi, Ramanathapuram district, alleging his connection in supplying ganja to Mr. Shankar and his associates. During the arrest, authorities seized 2.6 kg of ganja from Mahendran’s possession. Additionally, Palanichettipatti police apprehended Shankar’s accomplices, Ramprabhu and Rajarathinam, seizing 500 grams of ganja from their vehicles.

Previously detained by Coimbatore police for derogatory remarks against policewomen, Shankar found himself in judicial custody. Transported from Coimbatore Central Prison, he appeared before the Special Court in Madurai under a Prisoner on Transit Warrant.

During the proceedings, Shankar informed Special Court Judge M. Chenkamalaselvan of an assault he endured at Coimbatore Central Prison, expressing a desire for relocation to Madurai Central Prison. The judge advised him to file a formal petition for consideration.

Meanwhile, outside the Madurai District Court, a group of women staged protests denouncing Shankar’s offensive comments against policewomen, highlighting the public outcry against his behavior.
