In another unfortunate incident in Kota, Rajasthan, a student aspiring for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) took his own life, marking the fourth such case this year. Kota is a prominent education hub where students from various parts of the country come to prepare for competitive exams, including IIT entrance exams. Despite efforts to address mental health issues among students, the trend of student suicides persists.

The victim, identified as Shubh Choudhary from Jharkhand, had been diligently preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Mains) – a crucial test for admission to top engineering colleges, including the prestigious IITs. Shubh had been residing in Kota for the past two years. Following the announcement of the JEE Mains results, which did not meet his expectations, Shubh returned to his hostel room. Tragically, his lifeless body was discovered hanging from the ceiling the next morning.

Local authorities are currently investigating Shubh’s room for any signs of a suicide note or other clues that may shed light on the circumstances leading to this devastating event. The family of the young aspirant has been informed, and an autopsy will be conducted once they arrive in Kota.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges related to the mental well-being of students in Kota, despite initiatives aimed at preventing such tragedies. The persistent occurrence of student suicides emphasizes the need for continuous efforts to address the underlying issues contributing to the mental health struggles faced by these young aspirants.
