Suchana Seth, accused of murdering her four-year-old son amid a contentious divorce with her husband, PR Venkat Raman, had previously filed domestic violence charges and sought ₹2.5 lakh per month in alimony. She alleged physical abuse against her and the child, providing WhatsApp messages, pictures, and medical records as evidence. Despite Mr Raman denying the charges, a restraining order had been issued, preventing him from entering her home or communicating with her or the child.

The court granted weekly visitation rights to Mr Raman, speculating this order may have led to the tragic incident. The domestic violence case was last heard on December 12, preceding the Goa tragedy. Ms Seth was arrested in Karnataka’s Chitradurga after being caught fleeing with her son’s body in a brown bag. She claimed to have found the child dead after a nap, but Goa Police suspects foul play, given the bloodstained towel and empty cough syrup bottles in her room. The post-mortem suggests smothering, and Ms Seth faces murder charges.
