Education loan mela to be held in Madurai

MADURAI: The Madurai district administration will conduct an ‘Education loan mela’ at the American College from 9am to 5pm on Wednesday with participation from all banks in the city. The special melas aims at helping students get financial assistance for pursuing higher studies.
As many as 28 banks — 12 national banks and 16 private banks — will be taking part in the mela. Madurai MP Su Venkatesan urged for students to make the most of the mela (camp).
“Students who completed schooling must not miss out on going for higher studies because they are not able to afford the fees. That is why this academic year, we have been making efforts to make available educational loans amounting up to Rs 500 crore for students in Madurai district,” said the MP.
Officials have been making efforts to create awareness among students. “Three meetings have also been held. So far, educational loans amounting to Rs 55 crore have been disbursed to students. As part of these efforts to help students get educational loans without any difficulty, the ‘Educational loan mela’ is set to be held on Wednesday,” said Su Venkatesan.
A help desk and facilitation centre have been set up at the collectorate.
